The updated EN 1570-1:2024 standard for lifting tables is now in force. Here’s what you need to know before the transition deadline on March 16, 2026.

EN 1570-1:2024 has already been published in the Official Journal as a harmonized standard under the Machinery Directive, meaning it is fully valid to use today for demonstrating conformity and CE marking. Both the 2024 edition and the previous EN 1570-1:2011+A1:2014 have been available in parallel during a transition period to allow manufacturers time to adapt to the updated requirements.

The important date is 16 March 2026. From that point onwards, the earlier 2011+A1:2014 version can no longer be used for CE marking procedures. After that date, new lifting tables must follow EN 1570-1:2024 as the sole standard giving presumption of conformity across the EU.

What’s new in the 2024 revision?
Based on the official introduction to the standard, several updates stand out:

• a complete restructuring of the document
• inclusion of lifting tables in new non-industrial applications (e.g. Skillet lines, AGVs and Static Elevating Work Platforms)
• new provisions for passing fixed landings and carrying authorised persons under operator control
• introduction of rated and structural loads
• new flow-chart guidance for travel-zone risks (Annex I)
• stronger requirements for public protection in publicly accessible areas
• clarified rules for boom barriers, interlocking and removable guard-rails
• new requirements for locking at upper fixed landings

Do existing lifting tables need to be rebuilt?
No. Lifting tables designed to earlier versions of the standard do not need upgrading unless they undergo a major modification or their original application is changed.

Carl-Johan Fogelberg played an active role in shaping the updated EN 1570-1:2024 standard.

SIGI Europe’s involvement
Carl-Johan Fogelberg, Director of Design Engineering at SIGI Europe, participated directly in the revision work. This has given us early insight into the practical implications and supports our long-standing commitment to safe, reliable lifting solutions across Europe.

Time to prepare
With the end of the transition period approaching, now is the right moment to review equipment fleets, upcoming investments and internal safety routines to ensure a smooth shift to the updated requirements.
